Another one in less than 5 minutes? pff...
I have just got to know that feature exists:
The idea is excellent and brutal at the same time. A good punishment for murderers in the medieval ages (I guess... I am not properly a judge).
Nonetheless, this might heavily affect the enjoyment of a player. These kinds of criminal systems are make some players take a step back before playing as 'player killers' (yes, this might be more directed to the low level players, but in the other hand there are other players with the 'saviour' complex that can balance this. Actually, a saviour system might be well place, and it might be in game already as the bounty system).
Anyway, what I want to suggest is not a removal of the Jail, but to make it more dynamic and to give (even if randomly) the player other tasks. One time they might be sent to the mines, another time they might be sent to the fields to clear a farm from disease spreading rats, or something else, as they say imagination is the sky. It can even take the form of mini-games.
It must not be forgotten that it is a game and as such, you (at least should) want to provide a fun and unique experience to the player and not to bore them with the same task over and over again in case they want to continue with the criminal play style.
Also, I think it would be fair to put the player's skill to test in these scenarios by giving them a chance (even if it's only 5%) to flee jail and it's task. Fleeing obviously shouldn't clear the 'murderer' status from the player and neither should 1 day at the mines. At this point I'd say to keep them away from big cities, but it can affect their game experience as well.
Eh, I don't know. What do you think?

Jail
If you die as a criminal you'll be sentenced to jail to mine iron ore at a greatly reduced experience rate. The length of the sentence depends on the severity of your crimes and the number of previous sentences.
